Remember how in ‘Gravity’ they were dedicated to making their film as scientifically accurate as possible? Yeah well ‘Life’ doesn’t do that, but it’s still pretty dang good.
‘Life’ is really one of those movies that came out of nowhere. I hadn’t really heard much about it until I saw the trailer a couple of weeks ago while watching ‘Get Out’. That’s a shame because I feel like I’m not the only person to have that experience.
The cast for this movie is really great. The main stars are Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Fergason. They have the most fleshed out relationship, even though on their own they were pretty stale. Ryan Reynolds is also in there being Ryan Reynolds. Not a bad thing! Just not an earth shattering performance.
As I mentioned in the intro, the thing that bothered me most about this film was science-related. Gravity. It seems that sometimes objects behaved like they would in zero gravity, while other times they behaved like they would on a movie set. It’s something really nit picky, but it took me out of the film a few times. Another thing is that the story of this movie is nothing to out of the ordinary. People in space see a monster and try to survive. The thing that makes this movie good though, is that it knows that the story is cliché but it does a good job telling that story. There are some interesting twists and scares that I thought made the film pretty enjoyable.
Go see ‘Life’. Mindless movie entertainment.
