Judge me if you want to, but I was so scared to go see this movie. The one thing in horror movies that scares me more than anything are faces or body parts that move in an unnatural way. I don’t know why but it is. That’s why the trailers with the nasty smiley faces freaked me out. But, did this movie live up to the fear it gave me from the trailers?
I find the plot in this movie really irrelevant. All you need to know is that the main characters have to play extreme truth or dare or they get possessed and die. That’s it. And really that’s all that I expected it to be. I really just wanted to get the crap scared out of me by some creepy faces and some nasty deaths, and they sort of delivered on that. Even for me though, the faces started coming just too often. I feel like it would’ve been more impactful if you would only see it a few times in the movie. The deaths were fine, but a little disappointing considering I saw every single one in the trailers. Literally nothing was left to the viewer to see except for if that person would live or die from their dare.
As far as characters go, I’d say that the only remotely likable ones were Olivia (Lucy Hale) and Brad (Hayden Szeto). They at least had some character development. The worst characters in my opinion were Markie (Violett Beane) and Lucas (Tyler Posey). They both just started to really piss me off with the way that they handled certain situations. The acting in general was fine. Nothing too crazy but not the usual B-movie horror acting.
In the end, if you want to see a horror movie that you can make fun of with your friends and have fun with, I think you should go see this. Best horror movie ever? Not even close. Harmless fun? Sure!
P.S. I did a quick IMDb search and Gary Anthony Williams (of Whose Line is it Anyway? fame) played the demon! How random…
