What to Watch on HBO – April 2020

With most people self-quarantining at home, I thought that I would save the thumbs of people scrolling through streaming platforms, and give my recommendations on what to watch. I figured I would start off with HBO as there is some real quality media on there right now, and a little something for everyone.

If you’re in the mood for a short, yet enthrauling TV series…

‘Watchmen’ (TV Series)

I loved ‘Watchmen’, and I think it is a perfect show to binge. I never saw the ‘Watchmen’ movie, nor have I read any of the comic books, but if you want a great 9 episode show, this is the one. The world that the show builds is so immersive and the cast and acting are amazing.

If you haven’t had quite enough politics, but also need a laugh…

‘Long Shot’

I haven’t seen this movie since it was in theaters, but I’m thinking that I might give it a re-watch. Seth Rogan and Charlize Theron have amazing chemistry, and the idea of Seth Rogan being a speech writer for any politician is a funny enough concept.

If you want some mid-2000’s nostalgia…

‘Sky High’

This recommendation is mostly a nostalgia pick for my 20-somthing’s out there, but I recently put this movie on in the background, and ended up sitting and watching the whole thing. It has aged like a fine wine, and ends up being a relevant parody-esque escape from the cookie cutter superhero movies of today.

If you want to finally give into the hype…

‘Big Little Lies’ (TV Series)

I know so many people who keep saying that this show is on their list and they just haven’t checked it out yet. WATCH IT PEOPLE! The trailers, in my opinion, made this show look extremely boring, but it is far from it. The entire cast is amazing, with Nicole Kidman and Laura Dern being my personal favorites. The hype is totally justified.

If you have an extra 40 minutes and just want to laugh…

‘Tour de Pharmacy’

It is a shame that more people haven’t seen this weird sports mockumentary. It is extremely crude at times, so I get that it isn’t for most people, but just the cameo’s alone make it worth watching; Andy Samberg, Orlando Bloom, Freddie Highmore, Joe Buck, Daveed Diggs, John Cena, James Marsden, Maya Rudolph, Danny Glover, Mike Tyson, Jeff Goldblum, and my personal favorite, Lance Armstrong. Just give it a try. It’s only 40 minutes long and I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

If the world isn’t scary enough for you right now…

‘The Conjuring 2’

I’ve talked about this movie before in my “Best Movies of the Summer: June 2016” and it really is great. In some ways I think that ‘The Conjuring 2’ is better than the first one. Ive never been so shocked by a scare in my life (I’m looking at you, Crooked Man). This is the perfect film to take your mind off of the real life horrors of today, and put them in a different world.
