I’m an Aquarius. I am always changing my mind on things, but one thing that seems to always stay the same for me is my list of my favorite movies (for the most part). Sometimes the order fluctuates, or I’m just not in the mood for certain movies at certain points in my life, but this list of movies has stayed consistent for longer than the car I’m driving. In no particular order, I decided that I would share my top movies that I keep going back to. DISCLAIMER. I am 24, and a good chunk of these movies are relatively recent releases. I don’t want to hear anything about how I’m missing out on older movies. I personally think that movies now are better than they have ever been (and worse in some ways). Anyway, here is my list.
‘Jurassic Park’ (1993)
Whenever someone asks me what my favorite movie is, this is my quick and easy answer. I grew up on this movie. My parents only ever owned 2 VHS tapes throughout my whole childhood, and it was ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Austin Powers’. Thank god I picked ‘Jurassic Park’. I re watch it probably once a year, and it always holds up. Any my GOD, Jeff Goldblum really is quite a specimen in this movie.
“Hold on to your butts.”
‘The Incredibles’ (2004)
‘The Incredibles‘ is still easily the best super hero movie ever made, sorry Avengers. I cry every single time I watch it, and the soundtrack is a work of genius. It always made me wish that I played the trumpet instead of the stupid clarinet in band.
“No capes!”
‘Arrival’ (2016)
I’ve never in my life had a movie make me think so hard about the meaning of life. I’ve also never had as many chills in a movie as I had in this one. ‘Arrival‘ is the reason that Denis Villeneuve is my favorite director. I know that it seems slow, but just stick with it and you won’t be disappointed.
“Despite knowing the journey…and where it leads…I embrace it…and I welcome every moment of it.”
‘La La Land’ (2016)
Yeah yeah, I know. I’m one of those ‘La La Land’ people. What can I say? I love a beautiful looking movie, with beautiful people, and beautiful music. Sue me.
“It’s another day of sun.”
‘The Orphanage’ (2007)
I only discovered this movie in the last year, but I loved it so much. I tell everyone I know to get over their fear of subtitles and watch it. It’s scary while still being heartbreaking and everything I love about the horror genre.
“Seeing is not believing. It’s the other way around. Believe, and you will see.”
‘Clue’ (1985)
You may notice a lack of comedies on my list, and frankly that’s because I believe that 90% of comedies are lazy and not funny. ‘Clue’ is such an exception. I love this movie so much. When I was little, being about to choose from different endings was so fun, and every character is so hilarious. And I mean Tim Curry. Enough said.
“We’re trying to find out *who* killed him, and *where*, and with *what*!”
‘Hereditary’ (2018)
This is one of the few horror movies I’ve seen that kept me up at night. It’s such a well made movie with amazing acting and an interesting story. It’s not for every type of horror fan, but the last 15 minutes have the biggest WTF moments in any movie I’ve ever seen.
“Hail, Paimon.”
So there you go. I think I’m going to end my list there. I could go on, but I feel like these are my favorites that I actually go back and re-watch frequently. Agree? Disagree?
